Early Years Reading Program

Sandparents is an early literacy program for children under the age of 6 in our community. A young child is partnered with an older person - a sandparent - and the two meet once a week for approximately one-half hour at a supervised and pre-arranged location in the local area. During their time together, the sandparent reads, sings or otherwise interacts with the child. The hope is that the two will develop a mutually rewarding friendship in a safe, cozy and stimulating environment. This wonderful program is in its early stages and more locations will be added over time.
